Door-to-door survey identifies 38 villagers with suspected symptoms of different types of cancer in Bhalabadrapuram

High incidence of cancer symptoms in Bhalabadrapuram village prompts government action and medical investigation by various hospitals.
Suspected symptoms of different types of cancer have been found among the 38 residents of Bhalabadrapuram during the two-day door-to-door survey carried out by the medical and health authorities the village in Biccavolu Mandal in East Godavari district.
The State government swung into action after Anaparthi MLA Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy raised the issue of high number of incidence of cancer in the village during the Assembly session on March 20.
In a joint press conference attended by the MLA here on Monday, East Godavari District Collector P. Prasanthi said: “As many as 23 persons have been suffering from various cancers in Bhalabadrapuram village and eight of them are living outside the village for better treatment.”
“As many as 38 persons have reported suspected symptoms of various cancers during the two-day door-to-door survey. All of them need to undergo further medical diagnosis to confirm if they are sufffering from any cancer,” said Ms. Prasanthi.
On Monday, a team of doctors representing Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBC&RC), Visakhapatnam, have launched their study to trace the factors for the cancer cases in the village. The cancer screening will be done simultaneously under the aegis of the HBC&RC doctors. Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy has appealed to the locals to support the doctors in conducting medical tests.
The doctors from Government General Hospital, Rajamahendravaram, Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, G.S.L. Hospital are probing the incidences of the cancer cases in the village.
