‘Do not fall pray to alcohol and drug addiction’

Udupi Deputy Commissioner warns youth about dangers of drug and alcohol addiction, urging vigilance and prevention efforts in society.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari on Friday called upon youth not to fall for drug and alcohol addiction, which will not just affect mental and physical health but also lead to terminal illness.
Inaugurating the workshop on harmful effects of drug and alcohol addiction, which was jointly organised Udupi District administration, Health Department and Yuva Red Cross at Government First Grade College, Tenkanidiyuru, Udupi, Ms. Vidyakumari said youth, for instant pleasure, were getting addicted to drug and alcohol addiction. As they find it difficult to get de-addicted, these youths are getting deprived of education, thus spoiling their career. They are getting devalued in the society. People should not allow this to happen.
While asking teachers to keep close watch on behaviour of the students, the officer said classmates should report to teachers if they suspect their classmates falling prey to drugs and alcohol. Police is working with other departments in conducting anti drugs campaign, she said.
Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Pratheek Bayal, Psychiatrist at Udupi District Hospital Vasudev, District Health Officer K. Ramarao and First Grade College Principal Nityananda V. Gaonker also spoke.
