Distribute spectacles among school students, Health Minister tells officials

Health Minister directs distribution of 90,000 spectacles to school students, emphasizes eye donation awareness and medical services improvement in tribal areas.
Medical, Health and Family Wefare Minister Y. Satyakumar Yadav has directed the officials concerned to take steps to distribute 90,000 spectacles to school students aged between 5 and 15 across the State.
Reviewing the various programmes being organised as part of the National Health Mission at the department office in Mangalagiri recently, the Minister said arrangements should be made immediately at the constituency level for the distribution of the eyeglasses. He said free eye tests should also be conducted for people in villages aged above the 45.
The Minister asked officials to organise awareness programmes about the importance of eye donation among people. Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Vakati Karuna explained to the Minister about the progress of various programmes under the NHM.
He said special attention should be paid to improving medical services in tribal areas. He said strong steps should be taken to prevent water-borne diseases in rural areas and added that the targets of cancer screening programme should be met.
