Hundreds of devotees thronged temples on the occasion of Tamil New Year and Vishu on Thursday.
Right from the morning, devotees were seen waiting in queues to offer prayers at major temples in the city and suburbs. Since COVID-19 restrictions were withdrawn, puja items such as coconuts and garlands were accepted in temples and special pujas were performed.
Devotees said that due to the pandemic, they did not visit temples during the Tamil New Year in the last two years and expressed happiness over the opportunity to resume the visit.
Major temples witnessed huge crowds in the morning as prasadam was also distributed to the devotees.
In rural areas too, special pujas were performed in temples in the evening in which devotees participated in large numbers. In many temples, ‘Vishukani’ darshan took place for the devotees in the morning.
