College students may be at a greater risk of experiencing depression and anxiety compared to those not in higher education, according to a new study published in The Lancet Public Health.
The first study looked at 4,832 young people who were 18 and 19 years old between 2007 and 2009. "The first couple of years of higher education are a crucial time for development." "Being removed from major support systems … increases feelings of loneliness and fear, which are directly correlated with symptoms of anxiety."
