“It is a good platform to get motivated as the top eight teams/ athletes in the chosen event compete in the respective event bringing out their best performances,” Mr. Muhilan told presspersons here. As such, the viewers could expect thrilling performances by seasoned players and learn many things from them.
While the government has sanctioned ₹5 crore for the event, the Mangala Stadium Committee was undertaking repairs/refurbishment of facilities at an estimated cost of ₹94 lakh, the DC said. The athletics have been scheduled at Udupi because that city has better facilities, he said adding the district administration has submitted a proposal to the government to improve the facilities at Mangala at ₹3 crore cost.
To be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on January 17 at Mangala Stadium, the State Games 2025 would get culminated at the valedictory function to be attended by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, among others, at Ajjarkad District Stadium in Udupi on January 23 at 5 p.m., Mr. Muhilan said.
With a soon-to-be-inaugurated indoor stadium with international facilities for badminton and kabaddi at Urwa Market in Mangaluru, coastal cities Mangaluru and Udupi were geared up to host various national and international sports events in the coming days, the DC added.
Youth Services and Sports Department Joint Director Jithendra Shetty said the department was harnessing information technology to the maximum extent in the conduct of the event. It will ensure real-time announcement of results through its portal and WhatsApp channels.
The portal has information about the event while the department has created a database of sportspersons attending the meet, Mr. Shetty said.
