Early summer heat hits Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in Andhra Pradesh, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius.
Day temperatures have gone up significantly in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in Andhra Pradesh; thanks to the impact of early summer in February third week itself. The temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius till February first week but it steadily reached 33 degrees Celsius, making people to feel the heat of the summer.
A majority of the people preferred to remain indoors between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. when the heat was at peak stage almost every day, during the past fews days. As per the observations of Indian Meteorological Department, the temperatures could go up to 38 degrees Celsius in next few weeks.
In the absence of urban forestry and lack of sufficient greenery within the cities, the temperatures are causing trouble to the people. Vizianagaram municipal corporation which is anticipating depletion of groundwater with the impact of summer, is giving importance for repairs of all hand pumps in public places. It is also concentrating on repairs of major pipelines in all the places en route between Vizianagaram and Thatipudi reservoir which is the main source of water for the Fort City. With the impact of summer heat, almost all major rivers including Vamsadhara, Nagavali and others are receiving thin inflows from their catchment areas.

The Opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) whether it would fulfil the poll promise of providing free LPG cylinders to women on Holi. Hitting back, the ruling party asked AAP why had it not kept its word on disbursing ₹1,000 to women for which it had allocated ₹2,000 crore in the 2024-25 budget. Meanwhile, Delhi government sources said officials are preparing a blueprint of the proposal and that the criteria for the beneficiaries is yet to be decided. The BJP had promised to provide LPG cylinders for ₹500 to women from poor families and one free cylinder each on Holi and Deepavali ahead of the February 5 Assembly election.
