In 2022, Indian software developers were the top contributors to AI projects on GitHub, accounting for 24.2% of the total. This information comes from Stanford’s AI Index Report. However, China leads in AI-related journal publications. In terms of international collaboration, the U.S. and China have been dominant in AI partnerships. The overall number of AI publications globally has significantly increased from 2 lakh in 2010 to nearly 5 lakh in 2021, with journal articles comprising 60% of these publications. The U.S. and China have had the most significant collaborations in AI over the past 12 years. China’s institutions, particularly the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have been prolific in AI research output. Furthermore, the number of AI-related projects on GitHub has steadily risen, reaching 3,47,934 by 2022. India is a notable contributor in this regard, with the European Union and the United Kingdom also making substantial contributions.
In 2022, software developers in India contributed to over 24% of AI related projects in GitHub, the most in the world, according to Stanford’s latest Artificial Intelligence Index Report. However, China dominates AI-related journal publications by a huge margin. Also, in terms of journal collaborations in AI, the U.S. and China are leading other country pairs decisively.
