
DAC gives approval for procurements worth ₹21,772 crore

Defence Acquisition Council approves capital acquisition proposals for water jet crafts, interceptor craft, EWS, radar receiver, and helicopters.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday (December 3, 2024) approved five capital acquisition proposals worth ₹21,772 crore. These include water jet fast attack craft, fast interceptor craft, Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS), next-generation radar warning receiver and Advanced Light Helicopters for surveillance in coastal areas.
“The DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of 31 New Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts for the Indian Navy. These are designed to perform the task of low intensity maritime operations, surveillance, patrol, and search and rescue operations close to the coast,” a Defence Ministry statement said. In addition, these vessels will play an effective role in anti-piracy missions, especially in and around our Island territories, it stated.
The DAC also accorded AoN for procurement of 120 Fast Interceptor Craft. These vessels are capable of performing multiple roles, including escorting high value units such as aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates and submarines for coastal defence.
The AoN was also accorded for procurement of EWS comprising external airborne self-protection jammer pods, next-generation radar warning receiver and associated equipment for Su-30 MKI Aircraft. “This system will enhance the operational capabilities of SU-30MKI and protect it from enemy radars and related weapon systems while carrying out a mission against enemy targets protected by air defence systems,” the Ministry said.
The DAC also accorded AoN for procurement of six ALH marine role for Coast Guard to strengthen the coastal security and surveillance in the coastal areas. It has also accorded approval for the overhaul of T-72 & T-90 tanks, BMP- and engines of Sukhoi fighter aircraft which will enhance the service life of these assets, the statement added.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
