‘Dabba Cartel’ starring Shabana Azmi to premiere on Netflix on February 28
Dabba Cartel, a Netflix crime series about a gang of middle-class women running a drug cartel, will release on February 28, the streamer announced on Friday.
Dabba Cartel features an ensemble cast of Shabana Azmi, Gajraj Rao, Jyotika, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand and Sai Tamhankar. Additionally, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat are also featured in the cast.
Set in Thane, Dabba Cartel follows five middle-class women and their families whose lives are thrown into chaos when their low-key dabba service spirals into a high-stakes drug delivery operation. “Narcos Thane,” says a character, teasing Azmi’s queenpin.
“The women-led cartel is now thrust into peril, while the men — employees of a pharmaceutical company, called Viva Life, at the center of this syndicate — are being investigated for ties to an illegal pharmaceutical drug,” read a note from the makers.
Dabba Cartel is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment. It is directed by Hitesh Bhatia.
Monika Shergill, Vice-President, Content, Netflix India, said in a statement, “Dabba Cartel is our first major series in partnership with the powerhouse duo Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. This is a story that follows five women from diverse backgrounds who transform a simple idea into a game-changing enterprise. At its core, Dabba Cartel explores the contrast of ambition and greed set in a middle-class housing society.”
