Doha: Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani crowned the winners yesterday of a Nabati poetry contest.
The competition was organised by the Ministry of Culture at Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal Mohammed, spanned nine months. The Kuwaiti poet Sultan bin Bandar Al Ajmi was announced the winner, receiving a prize of QR1m. Meanwhile, the other eight finalists each received QR100,000, bringing the total prize money to QR1.8m.
The nine poets who competed in the final round were selected from previous rounds and delivered poems on the theme of 'Participation in Qatar National Day Celebrations'.
In his remarks, Director of the Qatar Poetry Centre poet Shabeeb bin Arar Al Nuaimi highlighted that the competition showcased noble creativity over the nine months, attracting hundreds of poets from various countries and generations.
These poets conveyed the values of ethics and morals through their verses, turning their poetry into a platform for expressing sincerity, loyalty, and other commendable virtues reflective of the region’s rich heritage.
