Former Minister G.T. Deve Gowda aims to establish a "Greater Mysore City Corporation" within six months for development.
Former Minister and MLA for Chamundeshwari G.T. Deve Gowda on Saturday claimed he has been assured of the creation of the “Greater Mysore City Corporation” within six months.
Mr. Gowda, who convened a meeting of officials of all the departments on Saturday, told reporters that his top priority was to create a “Greater Mysuru City Corporation” or “Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike” and bring under its purview all the residential areas falling under the limits of town panchayats on the outskirts of Mysuru.
When asked if the government would announce the creation of Greater Mysuru in the upcoming State Budget, Mr. Gowda said, “They have promised to do it in six months and hold elections to the body in one year.”
He said the meeting was convened to discuss the problems the people of his constituency were facing. The constituency comprises most of the 900 MUDA-developed and MUDA-approved layouts that have been transferred to local bodies recently.
He said the task of developing these areas now fell on the town panchayats but these bodies lacked the financial strength to take up the works. “I will gather the statistics and bring it to the attention of the Chief Minister and the government,” said Mr. Gowda.
He pointed out that the areas falling under his constituency faced a huge problem concerning the Under Ground Drainage (UGD) system and said there was a requirement of ₹1,000 crore to fix the UGD problem alone.
Similarly, he demanded the early release of funds for the completion of the Hale Unduwadi drinking water project while pointing out that the officials had assured that 60 MLD of water would be available from the Kabini drinking water scheme in about a month.

The Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, 2024, which restructures the civic administration in Bengaluru, will be tabled in the upcoming Budget session of the State legislature, and following its passage, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be split into two or three corporations and “elections will be held in May 100%”, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said.
