The 11-day long book fair in Nagercoil concluded with a valedictory ceremony organised by the district administration in the venue on Saturday.
The sixth edition of the book fair held on the S.L.B. School premises attracted a large crowd compared to previous years. Due to lower footfall of last year’s venue, the district administration opted for a more central location in the city, resulting in increased public participation.
This year’s fair saw over two lakh visitors from different parts of the district.
A publisher at the fair said the sales this time was higher than last year attributing the increase to the venue’s convenience and accessibility. He observed that many students were particularly interested in purchasing the book Psychology of Money, driven by the book’s popularity on social media.
Despite the digital era, some students continue to cherish the feel of new books. He commended the district administration’s efforts to make the fair a comprehensive experience by incorporating food stalls and cultural programmes to showcase the talent of students all within a compact venue.
To mark the conclusion of the fair, a valedictory ceremony was held, during which prizes were awarded to students who participated in the cultural events.
Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena lauded the team led by District Revenue Officer J. Balasubramaniam for organising the fair. She appreciated the coordinated efforts of various departments in creating awareness about the event and making it a resounding success.
