CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh secretary plans to oppose electricity hike and discuss political strategies at State-level conference.
CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh secretary V. Srinivasa Rao on Saturday (January 25, 2025) said the party would finalise an action plan to oppose the steep hike in electricity charges in its State-level three-day conference to be held between February 1 and 3, 2025, in Nellore.
Speaking to The Hindu in Srikakulam, he said the NDA government had put an additional financial burden in the form of various taxes and enhanced power tariff, instead of implementing its ‘super-six’ poll promises.

“CPI(M) would also oppose the State Government’s special priority for Amaravati region while ignoring developmental activities in other districts. The government failed to allocate funds for pending irrigation projects including the Vamsadhara in Srikakulam and Jhanjavati in Parvathipuram-Manyam district. The disparities will be discussed at length in the three-day conclave,” he added.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the party would also discuss the political situation and its performance in the general elections. “CPI(M) could register a decent number of votes in eight Assembly seats and Araku Parliamentary segment where it polled nearly 1.25 lakh votes. The party will strategise for the local body elections which provide an opportunity to strengthen the party at the grassroot level,” he added.
Earlier, Mr Rao, CPI(M) Srikakulam district secretary D. Govinda Rao and others participated in a condolence meeting to mourn the death of party leader V.G.K. Murthy, who died of ill health. They recalled Murthy’s contribution for the welfare of the people of Srikakulam in the last three decades.
