CPI demands inquiry into corruption allegations against YSRCP leader Vijaya Sai Reddy, questions government's inaction, plans national executive meet.
CPI State assistant secretary J. V. Satyanarayana Murthy has demanded a thorough inquiry into the allegations of corruption against YSRCP leader and former member of the Rajya Sabha V. Vijaya Sai Reddy. He wanted the State government to order a probe by a sitting Judge of the High Court.
Alleging that during the YSRCP government, Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy had indulged various corrupt practices by taking undue advantage of his position in the ruling party, and thereby tarnished the brand image of Visakhapatnam. BJP State president D. Purandeswari had lodged a complaint in the Supreme Court against the YSRCP leader, through a letter, when she was in the Opposition. He wondered what has happened to her now, as the BJP was now a part of the alliance government. He also questioned the TDP leaders for their silence especially after levelling several allegations against Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy in the past.
He also questioned Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh for their failure to act on the issue. He also sought to know why Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan was not ordering an inquiry into the case. Mr. Satyanarayana Murthy said that the alliance government should realise that quitting politics would not make ‘right’ the ‘wrongdoings’ of Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy.
Alleging that Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy had indulged in large scale corruption regarding the removal of 22 A on Daspalla lands, which were in the heart of the city, and getting them registered on the names of his relatives, he demanded a full-fledged inquiry into the issue. It was also the responsibility of the alliance government to conduct an inquiry into the alleged grabbing of ‘Kaarteeka Vanam’ lands on the Beach Road and getting the Radisson Blu hotel constructed there.
He said that there was a talk among the people that no action would be initiated on Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy as he has quit politics. He said if the government fails to conduct a probe, it would be construed that the alliance partners had a share in the spoils.
Mr. Murthy said that the national executive meet of the party would be held in Visakhapatnam on January 30 and 31. CPI leaders from all over the country would attend the meeting, and hold discussions on functioning of the Central and State governments. The meet would chalk out the future course of action of the party. CPI national general secretary D. Raja would speak at a seminar to be held on the occasion.
