COIMBATORE Coimbatore Corporation is looking to fill potholes in the city before the South West Mons
Coimbatore Corporation is looking to fill potholes in the city before the South West Monsoon and as a first step to that end has begun a trial run by roping in a Bengaluru company.
The Corporation, after tying up with the company, Pothole Raja, had sent out a message asking the city’s residents to send location and details of potholes on Corporation roads.
After the April 12 message, the company, through the Corporation, had received around 1,500 messages and had so far filled 80 potholes measuring 350 sq.m., said Pothole Raja Co-founder Sourabh Kumar.
Using an advanced machine that it had taken to Coimbatore, the company had deployed a small team to fill the potholes with asphalt that was weather proof. This was after it had demonstrated the technology to Corporation Commissioner Raja Gopal Sunkara, Mr. Kumar said.
The company usually took three to five days after it received complaints or messages to fill potholes. So far, it had filled potholes in cities across the States and in Tamil Nadu Coimbatore was the first city, he added.
Mr. Sunkara said the Corporation reached out to the company to fill potholes on an experimental basis. For, it wanted to keep roads ready and safe ahead of the monsoon, which was only a month-and-a-half away.
Based on the company’s performance and feedback from the public, the Corporation would look at floating tender to invite contractors to fill potholes.
