Telangana Congress Government silent on Andhra Pradesh's water diversion plans, questioned by BRS MLA Harish Rao.
HYDERABAD
The Congress Government in Telangana is maintaining a stoic silence on the Andhra Pradesh government’s acts of drawing 10,000 cusecs of water from the Right Canal of Nagarjunasagar Project every day for the last three months and its plans of diverting 200 tmc ft of Krishna water from Srisailam Project to the non-basin areas, charged the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao.
He sought to know why the Telangana Government was silent when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and its Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu were repeatedly saying that there was no loss to Telangana with their plans to divert Godavari water to Krishna Basin and Krishna water through Banakacherla.
Neither Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy nor Minister for Irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had not reacted to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s and the Water Resources Minister’s comments, Mr. Harish Rao said. Even the two Union Ministers and other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from the State [Telangana] appeared not to be bothered about Telangana’s interests in river waters, he said.
The BRS leader sought to know whether the BJP MPs from the State had no guts to represent the issue to the Centre and oppose the plans of Mr. Naidu. Perhaps, the tacit understanding between Mr. Naidu, BJP and Mr. Revanth Reddy could be the reason for Telangana leaders’ silence, he said.
