Conclave focuses on making Tamil Nadu a leader in turmeric production

CII Turmeric Conclave in Gobichettipalayam focuses on quality, sustainability, and industry leadership in turmeric cultivation and exports.
The fifth edition of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Turmeric Conclave – PonManjal, held in Gobichettipalayam on Tuesday, saw participation from over 350 farmers, members of farmer producer organisations and industrialists.
Aimed to position Tamil Nadu as a leader in turmeric cultivation, processing and exports, the conclave featured special talks on chemical-free turmeric storage solutions, pro-tray method of seeding, turmeric quality assessment tools and various grow-to-market turmeric varieties.
In his inaugural address, Binil George, Plant Head, Arjuna Natural Private Limited emphasised the importance of quality and the benefits of directly sourcing turmeric from farmers. Ashok P Nair, Head – Sustainable Agri Operations, AVT McCormick Ingredients, discussed sustainable agricultural practices expected by the industry. D. Venkateswaran, chairman of the Turmeric Conclave 2024 and Managing Partner, CD Technotex LLP, outlined the objectives of the conclave.
D. Shanmugasundaram, Chairman of CII Erode and Managing Partner, CD Technotex LLP delivered the welcome Remarks. Subi Thalapathi, president of the Kodiveri Dam Farmers Association and G. Aravind, vice chairman of CII Erode and Managing Partner, R K Ganapathi Chettiar, also addressed the gathering.
The event included sessions by Parshuram Sial, Senior Breeder (Spices) cum Officer-In-Charge, High Altitude Research Station, Odisha, and B. Mahender, Scientist and Head of the Turmeric Research Station, Nizamabad, who joined through video conferencing and interacted with the farmers.
Experts from industry and research institutions shared insights on how the state can achieve a leadership position in turmeric cultivation, processing and exports during the sessions.
The staff of gram panchayats in Mysuru staged a demonstration outside the zilla panchayat office here on Wednesday in support of their demands, including a minimum wage of ₹31,000 a month and a pension of ₹6,000 to the retired GP staff and also to the families of those who died during their service period.
