The 76th Republic Day celebrations unfolded with grandeur and patriotic fervour at the Armed Reserve police ground in Tiruchi on Sunday.

Collector M. Pradeep Kumar unfurled the national flag, besides releasing pigeons and balloons on the occasion. He inspected and accepted the guard of honour by the Armed Reserve police personnel.
Mr. Kumar later presented the Chief Minister’s medals to 90 police personnel in recognition of their service. Similarly, 426 officials and staff members of various departments were given meritorious certificates. As many as 28 beneficiaries were given welfare assistance worth ₹52.82 lakh.
He presented shawls to freedom fighters on the occasion.
Earlier, he paid tribute to war heroes at the War Memorial near Gandhi Market.
Students from various schools and colleges in the district presented cultural programmes.
K. Joshi Nirmal Kumar, Inspector-General of Police, Central zone; N. Kamini, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchi; V. Varun Kumar, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tiruchi Range; S. Selvanagarathinam, Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi; and senior officials participated in the function.
