Coimbatore Corporation plans to re-lay 3,301 damaged city roads at an estimated cost of ₹195.63 crore.
Coimbatore Corporation has submitted a Detailed Project Report to Commissioner of Municipal Administration seeking approval to re-lay the battered roads in the city numbering 3,301, which run for a length of 466.53 km, at an estimated cost of ₹195.63 crore.
The city roads were damaged by rain, Suez 24X7 drinking water works, individual drinking water connections, underground drainage works and telecom cable laying works. During a visit to the city earlier in November, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin had sanctioned ₹200 crore to re-lay the battered roads.
The civic body prepared a report after analysing the roads, ward-wise and zone-wise. And the report now envisages to re-lay the roads at ₹195.63 crore.
Of the total amount, West Zone will get ₹52.82 crore, North Zone ₹47.23 crore, East Zone ₹44.28 crore, South Zone ₹32.54 crore and the Central Zone ₹18.76 crore.
Corporation sources said that the proposal has been sent to the Commissioner of Municipal Administration for administrative and financial approvals. The work is likely to start in January.
