Coimbatore City Police launch four electric patrol cars with CSR support
The Coimbatore City Police launched four electric patrol cars on Friday.
The vehicles were flagged off by Police Commissioner V. Balakrishnan, along with representatives from Jos Alukkas that has funded ₹60 lakh for the vehicles as a corporate social responsibility initiative.
“This step is part of our efforts to make Coimbatore a carbon-neutral city. This is also the first time in Tamil Nadu that electric vehicles have been dedicated to traffic patrolling. Two cars will be used for traffic patrolling, with one deployed in the city’s western region and the other in the eastern region. The remaining two will assist in crime control. The cars have a range of 250 km,” he said.
“The department previously introduced an electric autorickshaw and a three-wheeled electric bike for patrolling, which were well-received,” the Commissioner added.
The police plan to expand their fleet of electric vehicles in the future, promoting sustainability and improving policing efficiency.

The Karnataka government has drafted a comprehensive master plan for the integrated development of Kukke Subrahmanya temple, the State’s highest revenue-generating temple managed by the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department. The redevelopment initiative is estimated to cost around ₹254 crore and aims to enhance infrastructure and facilities for devotees.
