Protest by City Municipal Corporation workers in Kalaburagi against elected member's assault and threats demands legal action.
Hundreds of workers employed by City Municipal Corporation staged a protest demonstration outside their office in Kalaburagi on Thursday condemning the objectionable behaviour of an elected member of the civic body.
Organised under the banner of Kalaburagi Corporation Officers and Employees Welfare Association, the agitating employees said that Riyaz Ahamad, an elected member of the corporation, mishandled and assaulted the staff on duty during the clearance of encroachments in Ward No 4.
They said that the member also threatened them with murder and demanded action against him.
“Being in a responsible position, the elected member and his followers not only obstructed public servants when they were discharging their duties but also attacked and threatened the employees of murder. Legal action should be initiated by registering a case in a police station and providing adequate protection to the employees. We also demand steps to cancel Mr. Riyaz Ahamad’s membership from the civic body,” an employee said during the agitation.
After submitting a memorandum to Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde and Mayor Yallappa Naikodi demanding action against Mr. Riyaz Ahamad, the agitating employees took out a procession to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner Rayappa Hunasagi.

Jadhav, vice-president Sunil Kumar Onti, general secretary Abadas Khatal, leaders Savitri Salagar, Prahlad B.K., Arif Ahamad, Vaishali, Arjun, M.D. Adil, Vinod Kumar, Revanasiddappa, Allauddin and others were present.
