NTR Commissionerate police rescue children from child-trafficking gang, arrest five women in Vijayawada, including repeat offender B. Sarojini.
The NTR Commissionerate police busted a child-trafficking gang and rescued four children. They arrested five women involved in the racket. The arrested include, B. Sarojini, Sk.Fareena, Sk. Saida Bi, K. Karunasri and P. Sirisha, all natives of Vijayawada.
Disclosing this to the mediapersons in Vijayawada on Saturday (March 1, 2025), Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu said Sarojini, who was arrested in child-trafficking cases in Delhi and other places earlier, developed a network with a woman, Preethi Kiran and Anil, for procuring the children.
“The kingpin of the gang, Sarojini, goes around the hospitals and diagnostic centres, identify childless couples, convince them and sell the babies to them,” the Police Commissioner said.
“The accused were selling female infants for ₹3 lakh and male babies at ₹5 lakh each. However, the price varies as per the desperation of the couple,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Gowthami Sali, who probed the racket.
The gang had sold away four babies to the couples of Eluru and Guntur districts in the last six months, said Mahila Police station ACP K. Latha Kumari. Sarojini was released from jail a few months ago. “Efforts are on to nab the remaining accused members of the gang,” said Task Force Additional DCP A. Srinivas Rao.
