The Chennai City Police have banned the use of Valluvar Kottam as a protest venue and instead have allotted Swami Sivananda Salai in Triplicane as the designated location for future protests.
City Police Commissioner A. Arun has issued an order to this effect. The venue has been changed due to the proposed construction of a new flyover at Valluvar Kottam, which is set to begin shortly, an officer said.
In total, two places have been designated for protests in the city, with police permission: the Chennai Guest House and Swami Sivananda Salai. Rallies can be held near Rajarathinam Stadium on Langs Garden Road provided that permission has been obtained from the police.

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly approves sub-classification of Scheduled Castes. We have kept our word, asserts Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The sub-classification will be based on the 2011 Census, with Andhra Pradesh as a single unit for implementation, he says, adding that it will be applied at the district level from 2026. The exercise done in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives will ensure equitable distribution of benefits among the SC sub-groups, he says.
