Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: CBI launches search operation at former R.G. Kar Medical College principal's premises for financial irregularities and murder case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday (August 25, 2024) completed polygraph tests on seven people in connection with the rape and murder of a resident doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
On Saturday, polygraph tests were conducted on four doctors who had dinner with the victim in the early hours of August 9. On Sunday, the CBI team visited the Presidency Correctional Home and conducted the test on the accused Sanjay Roy, a civic police volunteer. Tests were also conducted on another police volunteer, and on Sandip Kumar Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar MCH Sandip Kumar Ghosh. All seven gave their consent to the test.

The CBI also conducted searches in the residences of Dr. Ghosh and other officials related to the R.G. Kar MCH, including the home of Sanjay Vashisth, former superintendent of the hospital.
These searches and raids were part of the CBI’s investigation into allegations of financial irregularities involving Dr. Ghosh. The West Bengal government has set up an SIT to probe the accusations of corruption, which were made by a number of people including the hospital’s former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali, who has also approached the Calcutta High Court.
The Court had previously directed the transfer of both the corruption and rape and murder cases to the CBI for further investigation.
Resident doctors at the R.G. Kar Hospital vowed to continue their strike. “The motive of the horrific crime on August 9 is still not clear to us and thus all of us are still under danger. We want punishment of the accused and those who have aided in destruction of the evidence,” a resident doctor said, addressing a press conference at the hospital. The resident doctors said that the administration is trying to break their unity, adding that attempts are being made to give a political colour to their protests.
