BJP cadre protest in Pudukkottai demanding minister resignations after teacher's arrest, leading to road blockade and arrests.
BJP cadre staged a road blockade protest in Pudukkottai on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of Tamil Nadu Law Minister S. Regupathy and School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in the wake of the arrest of a government school teacher on charges of sexual harassment in the district on Monday.
Condemning the incident, BJP West District President Ramachandran led a demonstration near the Collector’s office. However, the police did not grant permission for the protest. As the BJP cadre attempted to march from Palpannai to the Collector’s office, they were stopped by the police at the Roundana junction using barricades. In response, the protesters staged a sit-in road blockade, raising slogans against the state government and the police for denying them permission to demonstrate.
The police forcibly removed the protesters and took them into custody. The road blockade led to temporary traffic disruption on the Pudukkottai-Tiruchi highway.
