BJP files complaint against displaying Hamas leaders' posters at Thrithala Fest in Kerala, alleging motive to incite communal violence.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed complaints with the police seeking action against those responsible for reportedly displaying posters of Hamas leaders during parade at the Thrithala Fest in Palakkad, Kerala, on Sunday (February 16, 2025).
BJP State general secretary C. Krishnakumar filed the complaints with the State and district police chiefs against the organisers of the festival. Those named in the complaint were Mohammed Koopam, K.P. Sreenivasan, and Shabeer M.N., president, secretary and treasurer respectively of the Thrithala Fest.
Posters of former Hamas leaders such as Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh were on display during an elephant procession taken out as part of the fest.
The BJP alleged that the portraits “were displayed with the objective of destroying peace in Kerala.”
The BJP took out a march here on Monday (February 17, 2025) night and demanded action against those responsible for it. Mr. Krishnakumar inaugurated the march. BJP Palakkad east district president Prasanth Sivan presided over the function.
BJP Palakkad west district president P. Venugopal filed a complaint with the DySP at Shoranur seeking action against the organisers of fest. He said photos of Hamas leaders were displayed with “the aim of creating communal divide among the youth by instilling extremist ideology in them.”
He also alleged a conspiracy behind the move. “There is a motive to trigger a Hindu-Muslim riot behind displaying the photos of Hamas leaders,” he said.
