Dakshina Kannada Pourakarmikas Association seeks regularisation of 387 contract workers in Mangaluru City Corporation by May 1.
The Dakshina Kannada Pourakarmikas and Grade 4 Workers Association has demanded regularisation of services of 387 pourakarmikas who are working on contract basis as loaders, drain cleaners and drivers in Mangaluru City Corporation.
Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Association’s secretary S.P. Anand said since the order of State Government in 2017, the Mangaluru City Corporation has regularised services of 462 pourakarmikas. As many as 127 pourkarmikas who work as loaders, 100 who do drainage cleaning work and 157 drivers still continue to work on contract basis.
Mr. Anand said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured of regularising services of all pourakarmikas by May 1. “We hope services of 387 pourakarmikas working in MCC are regularised at the earliest,” he said.
None of the 102 pourakarmikas in other local bodies in Dakshina Kannada district are on contract basis and all get direct payment of salary, Mr. Anand said.
Association president Anil Kumar demanded construction of independent houses for pourakarmikas in lands allocated to civic workers in Pachchanady, Mangalajyoti Nagar and Yekkur in Mangaluru.
