‘Anuja’ streaming release: Oscar-nominated Indian short reveals Netflix release date

Oscar-nominated Anuja, a poignant short film, debuts on Netflix, telling a story of resilience, love, and sacrifice.
Oscar-nominated live-action short film Anuja is set to make its global streaming debut on Netflix on February 5, 2025. The film, backed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Guneet Monga, is directed by the husband-and-wife duo Adam J Graves and Suchitra Mattai. Anuja tells a poignant and inspiring story of resilience, love, and sacrifice.
The film follows the journey of Anuja, a gifted nine-year-old girl working in a back-alley garment factory alongside her 17-year-old sister, Palak. When a compassionate teacher offers Anuja a scholarship to an elite boarding school, the sisters must navigate a heart-wrenching decision that could alter the course of their lives forever.
Netflix unveiled the trailer of Anuja, giving audiences a first look at the film. Speaking about the film’s release, co-director Adam J Graves expressed his gratitude, stating, “Suchitra and I are incredibly honored that Anuja has found a platform on Netflix. This film is a testament to the dedication and passion of so many talented individuals, and we are thrilled that its message of hope will now reach audiences globally.”
Produced by an esteemed team, including Suchitra Mattai, Mindy Kaling, Priyanka Chopra, Guneet Monga Kapoor, Krushan Naik, and Aaron Kopp, Anuja has already gained critical acclaim, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. It will compete against Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent.
The film marks Guneet Monga’s third Oscar nomination, following wins in the same category for The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence.
