The annual Kandoori festival at the renowned Mastan Sahib Valiyullah Dargah in Karaikal in Puducherry commenced on Saturday with the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony
The annual Kandoori festival at the renowned Mastan Sahib Valiyullah Dargah in Karaikal in Puducherry commenced on Saturday with the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony.
As part of the celebrations, a grand procession featuring glass-adorned chariots and floral palanquins set off from the dargah in the afternoon, making its way through key streets before returning to the shrine later at night. Over a hundred police personnel were deployed to ensure security during the event.
The festival concluded with a special prayer, following which flags were hoisted on the 110-foot-high pamaram (central mast) and the four minarets of the dargah. A large number of devotees participated in the event, offering prayers.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Puducherry Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister P.R.N. Thirumurugan, South Karaikal MLA A.M.H. Najim, Niravi Thirupattinam MLA N. Nagathiyagarajan, Senior Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Saujanya, Haj Committee Chairman Ismail, Karaikal Waqf Board Administrator, police officials, and peace committee members.
