‘Airport expansion works to be over by Sept. 2023’

In all probabilities, the expansion works, now under way in Thoothukudi airport, would be completed by September 2023. This was disclosed at a review meeting, chaired by Executive Director (construction wing) Sanjiv Jindal from Airports Authority of India, New Delhi, here on Sunday.
The Airport Authority of India had acquired 600.97 acres of land from the Tamil Nadu government for its expansion of runway, new passenger terminal, control tower, fire station and among others. During the discussions, it was also informed by the officials that they required another 100 acres of land.
From the security point of view, the compound wall for the entire 11-km stretch had been constructed. As for the building and electrical works were concerned, about 25 % of them had been finished, N Subramanian Station Director AAI, Thoothukudi said.
The All India Chamber of Commerce and other associations in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli have welcomed the work-in-progress at the airport premises.
