Joining issues with Governor R.N. Ravi on Ram Rajya, former Minister Sellur K. Raju said that the AIADMK had given Tamil Nadu Ram Rajya through its welfare schemes.
Addressing a protest meeting against the State Government's proposal on 150% hike in property tax here on Tuesday, Mr. Raju said that former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran gave a Ram Rajya by introducing noon meal scheme that mitigated hunger among students.
"That's why he was able to win being at a hospital 6,000 km away," he said.
The former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said that common man should not be dependent on anyone and hence, gave all welfare schemes, Mr. Raju said, adding that this was followed by the Edappadi K. Palaniswami Government.
"The people enjoyed all prosperity and this is what Ram Rajya meant" he said.
Complaining that whenever the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam comes to power, the people suffered, he said that the proposal on property tax revision was ill-timed.
When the prices of fuel, essential goods, medicine have skyrocketed, and people had suffered enough due to COVID in the last two years, increasing the property tax at this situation showed that the Government had no "humaneness," Mr. Raju said.
