Madras High Court Chief Justice's XI vs Advocate General's XI match ends in thrilling finish at Chepauk stadium.
The eighth edition of Madras High Court Chief Justice’s XI versus Advocate General’s XI held at M.A. Chidambaram cricket stadium at Chepauk in Chennai on Saturday ended in a nail biting finish, with the advocates managing to defeat the judges with just two balls left for the end of the match.
After the on-field captain of AG’s XI V. Ramesh won the toss, they elected to field first. Justices Abdul Quddhose and N. Sathish Kumar opened the batting for CJ’s XI and made a partnership of 27 runs out of 28 balls faced by them until Justice Quddhose got dismissed after scoring nine runs.
The second partnership between Justice Kumar and Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan did not last long with the dismissal of the former in the sixth over after scoring 15 out of 18 balls faced by him. Justice Ilanthiraiyan, however, built a strong partnership with Justice N. Anand Venkatesh to put up 50 additional runs on the scoreboard.
Justice Ilanthiraiyan turned out to be the highest scorer for his team by making 23 runs out of 39 balls. Justice Venkatesh scored 21, which included a sixer, out of 27 balls before getting bowled by Muziz Ali in the sixteenth over. Justices Sunder Mohan, K. Rajasekar and P. Dhanabal scored eight, 18 and two runs respectively.
Senior counsel M.S. Krishnan, aged 61, won the best bowler award for the third time in the last eight years. He gave away just nine runs in three overs and also secured the wicket of Justice Kumar in the sixth over of the innings. He was appreciated for his tight bowling compared to all other bowlers.
After the CJ’s XI put up a total of 125 runs on completion of 20 overs, the AG’s XI opened their innings with Additional Solicitor General (ASG) AR.L. Sundaresan and Madras High Court Advocates Association president G. Mohanakrishnan walking together into the ground to chase the score.
Though their partnership did not last for long with Mr. Mohanakrishnan getting out in the fourth over after scoring nine runs out of 16 balls, Mr. Sundaresan built a good partnership with M. Rajasekar to score 32 (including a sixer) out of 28 balls faced by him. The ASG was declared the man of the match as well as the best batsman.
