Mallepally Laxmaiah praises Bhutan's happiness model at International Happiness Day conference
Mallepally Laxmaiah, International President of the Association of Buddhist Tourist Operators (ABTO), commended Bhutan, a nation with a population of just 800,000, for setting a remarkable example for the world’s 8 billion people on how to live happily.
Delivering a speech at the International Happiness Day conference organised by the ABTO and the Buddhist Society of India (BSI) in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Thursday (March 20, 2025), he emphasised the importance of collaborating with Buddhist countries and organizations to promote Buddhism and Buddhist tourism.
He encouraged regional conferences on Happiness Day to spread awareness about holistic well-being, expressing gratitude to the King of Bhutan and local Buddhist organizations for hosting the historic event. His speech was part of a larger conference that celebrated Bhutan’s unique approach to human development, which prioritizes holistic well-being over economic growth.
The conference featured speeches from various representatives, including S.K. Thorat, former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), India, and Rikka Limbadri, former Chairman of the Telangana State Higher Education Council.
