A second child has died following a fatal Oshawa house fire that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter last week, police say.
In a news release on Monday, Durham Regional Police said a 12-year-old girl who was removed from the home died in hospital on Monday morning. Her father, who got out on his own, is expected to survive, police said.
Last Wednesday, the fire broke out at 70 McGrigor St., near Centre Street S. Fire crews were called to the home shortly after 8 a.m.
Firefighters pulled three people from the home, while the father was located outside. A 46-year-old woman and a nine-year-old girl were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead, while the 12-year-old girl and her father were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police said post-mortem exams have been completed and there are no signs of foul play.
Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal is continuing to investigate the cause, origin and circumstances of the fire, but police said it is not believed to be arson.
