YSRCP leaders protest against electricity charge hike, criticise NDA government for broken promises and financial mismanagement.
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders took part in a massive protest as part of ‘Porubata’, against the hike in the electricity charges in the State, here on Friday.
Led by the party district president Gudivada Amarnath, the YSRCP leaders, a large number of workers and supporters took part in a massive rally and staged a protest in front of the APEPDCL office near Gurudwara Junction. Raising slogans against the NDA government, the leaders carried ‘lanterns’, implying that the electricity charges are so high that people may go back to using lanterns.
Rajya Sabha member Golla Babu Rao, Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari, MLC & YSRCP women wing president Varudu Kalyani, former MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar were among those who took part in the protest. The YSRCP leaders carried posters stating – ‘Badude Badudu’ and criticised the State government.
Speaking during the protest, Mr. Amarnath alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has forgotten his election promises. The YSRCP leader said that before elections Mr. Naidu had assured that he would not increase electricity charges, but after forming government he had changed his word. A family which used to get ₹1,000 as electricity tariff is now forced to pay ₹1,500, he alleged. Mr. Amarnath said that this is a huge burden to the middleclass people across the State.
Mr. Babu Rao alleged that Mr. Naidu had never implemented election promises in the past and that was once again proved now. In the last six months, the NDA government has received poor feedback and people have started to suffer. He said that he would speak about the failures of the NDA government in parliament.
The YSRCP leaders have also alleged that in just six months, the NDA government had taken loans to the tune of ₹75,000 crore, but has not spent a penny on the welfare of people. They also said that the YSRCP campaigns were being well received by the public, which shows the people were already against the government.
