Youth Congress protests attack on Christian priest, criticizes Union government's stance on religious minorities, and silencing of critics.
The Youth Congress Thrissur Assembly Committee took out a march to the office of Union Minister Suresh Gopi in Thrissur on Saturday in protest against the recent attack on a Malayali Christian priest in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
The protest was aimed at condemning the attack and raising concerns about the Union government’s stance on religious minorities. The police used water cannons to disperse the protesters.
The march was inaugurated by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) secretary A. Prasad. He criticised the Union government’s attempts to intimidate religious minorities and silence critics, particularly those questioning the policies of the ruling establishment. “The Union government’s agenda after the Waqf Bill is clear- it aims to suppress minority voices, and this is reflected in an article that appeared in the Organiser, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) mouthpiece,” said Mr. Prasad.
Mr. Prasad also pointed out that Mr. Gopi, despite being a representative from Thrissur, failed to speak out when a priestfrom the Thrissur constituency was brutally attacked by the right-wing groups. He further criticised the Minister for threatening journalists who raised questions about the incident, adding, “The Minister is more interested in silencing the media than addressing the issues concerning his own constituency.”
The protest was presided over by Youth Congress Thrissur Assembly Committee president K. Sumesh.

“Passion, hard work, discipline, confidence and requisite skills will help in you achieving excellence in your chosen field,” Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Bhuvanesh Patil has said. He was inaugurating The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2025 at Bio Technology Hall of KLE Technology University (BVB Campus) in Hubballi on Saturday.
