15-year-old amateur golfer Kartik Singh impresses by making the cut, competing against pros.
World No. 1 under-15 amateur golfer Kartik Singh took everyone’s breath away by making the cut in the $2 million International Series championship at his home course, the DLF Golf and Country Club, on Saturday.
The only amateur among the pros, and many stars like Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin Niemann and Anirban Lahiri, Kartik did well to return a 1-under 71 in the second round, which could be completed only on Saturday, owing to weather induced delay.
In doing so, he became the youngest Indian ever to accomplish the gigantic task, which should augur well for his fledgling career.
He was 4-over 148, comfortably making it to the weekend action, when the cut fell at 8-over, dropping five Indians out of the race, including Jeev Milkha Singh. He qualified as the third best Indian among 10, behind Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar.
It was only his second tournament in the professional circuit for Kartik, after the one in the Asian Development Tour.
“I was four-under after 11 holes, but it is ok. I am happy with 1-under for the round. I am happy to make the cut. Hopefully, I can play well,” said Kartik, who has been coached by Deepnider Khullar.
“The DLF Golf Academy and Callaway have also helped me with my training”, said Kartik, who had trained at a different course for three weeks, before coming to DLF for the tournament week.
