Govt. firm on bringing up girl children in a protected environment: Minister
Calling for wholehearted support to protecting womenfolk, bringing up girl children in a safe environment and developing the communities of Thoothukudi into a major developed society in Tamil Nadu, Social Welfare Minister Geetha Jeevan has appealed to the newly elected urban local body members to work hard towards achieving these goals.
Speaking at a one-day training programme organised by the government for the newly elected representatives of urban local bodies here on Saturday, she said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was keen on giving an edge to the womenfolk. As a result of this aim, there had been so many women representatives in public offices, she said.
Ms. Geetha Jeevan said the government was determined to bring up girl children in a protected environment. As a first step, anganwadi centres and noon meal centres were being given a facelift, she said.
Collector K. Senthil Raj said the elected representatives were given training so that they would understand the functioning of different offices in civic bodies and the Panchayat Raj.
Thoothukudi Mayor Jagan Periasami and Corporation Commissioner T. Charushree participated.
