Elaine Russell says she's determined to eliminate hunger in her community.
The Mississauga resident founded the small volunteer-driven group, Compassionate Cuisine, whose mission is to cook fresh meals for hungry neighbours.
She says her ultimate goal is to ensure no one in Canada goes to bed hungry.
"I owe that to my fellow man, to help them, and make sure they eat," she told CBC Toronto.
For almost a year, the group has been cooking homemade meals for people in need and says it pays for many of the expenses out of pocket.
The group says it's served more than 10,000 meals to those who need them.
