Wet, windy weather knocks out power to hundreds in Prince County

High winds and rain caused power outages to hundreds of homes and businesses in Prince County on Saturday.
Trees that had fallen on power lines had knocked service out for about 2,000 customers in Kensington and surrounding areas, according to Maritime Electric spokesperson, Kim Griffin.
All Maritime Electric customers in the area had their power restored by 3:15 p.m.
The City of Summerside, which has its own power utility, also reported outages that were resoved by mid-afternoon.
Environment Canada issued a weather alert for Prince County, with winds gusting up to 90 km/h along the coast. Between 20 and 30 millimetres of rain was also forecast.
A wind warning was also issued for Kings County. Queens County, including Charlottetown, is under a less severe special weather statement with higher than normal water levels expected.
Winds are forecast to ease somewhat on Sunday, but could still reach 60 km/h in some areas, according to Environment Canada.
