Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner inspects sanitation at bathing ghats ahead of Sivaratri festival celebrations.
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra on Monday inspected sanitation at various bathing ghats in the city, ahead of the Sivaratri festival celebtrations on Wednesday.
After inspecting the Punnami Ghat, Krishnaveni Ghat, Bhavani Ghat and Durga Ghat, Mr. Dhyanachandra instructed the officials to ensure that sanitation was maintained properly during the festival as many devotees were expected to visit the ghats in large numbers for holy dip.
Issuing instructions, the Commissioner said in addition to maintaining sanitation, officials should make arrangements for supplying drinking water sachets to the devotees, if necessary, and set up temporary toilets and garbage bins on the ghats.
While the Kanaka Durga temple authorities are taking care of the arrangements at the Durga and Krishnaveni Ghats, arrangements on Punnami and Bhavani Ghats come under the purview of the VMC.
The VMC is setting up 16 temporary toilets and medical camps. Around 1 lakh devotees are expected to converge on the city for Sivaratri festival on February 26.
Zonal Commissioner Ramya Keerthana, Chief City Planner G.V.G.S.V. Prasad, in-charge Chief Medical Health Officer Suresh Babu and other VMC officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspections.
