
Visakhapatnam: all arrangements in place for naval events, says District Collector

‘Beautification works taken up on a large-scale by various organisations in the city’
District Collector A. Mallikarjuna said that all arrangements have been made for the Presidential Fleet Review (PFR) and Milan scheduled to be held next week. He said that a large number of people are expected to attend both the naval events for which preparation have been made. Addressing the media at the Collectorate here on Saturday, Mr. Mallikarjuna said that beautification works have been taken up on a large-scale by various organisations in the city and all the major junctions will be decorated for the events. He said that the a massive carnival reflecting the culture of the State will be organised. LED screens will be arranged at Beach Road, he added. According to the officials, around 30 international and 250 national delegates are expected to attend the Presidential Fleet Review.
Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha said that the city was brought under complete security blanket with 6,000 police personnel. He said that they would be taking the help of drones to estimate the crowd and would also manage traffic. Appropriate number of traffic personnel were also deployed. Rehearsals are also being organised for the programme. It was learnt that around 200 employees were appointed as liaison officers for protocol duties. Around 1,000 sanitation staff are being deployed for sanitation duties. As many as 80 medical staff were also deployed for emergency purpose. About 250 vehicles were arranged for the programme and around 110 hotel rooms were blocked for providing accommodation.
Meanwhile, the District Collector has also issued orders declaring holiday for about 17 factories/industries in the naval area on February 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. He took the decision to reduce traffic and public movement in view of the VVIP movement.
