Union Steel Minister visits New Mangalore Port

Union Minister for Steel Ram Chandra Prasad Singh visited New Mangalore Port on February 20 as a part of his two-day tour of Dakshina Kannada.
Port Trust Chairman A.V. Ramana and other senior officials welcomed the Minister, who was later offered a guard of honour by CISF personnel. Mr. Ramana and the team later took the Minister on a Port tour, including a tug ride to show berths from where Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) exports iron ore pellets and other products.
Mr. Singh discussed various issues related to the Port operations with officials with a specific focus on further enhancing ties of the Ministry’s KIOCL and the Port.
Earlier in the day, the Minister laid the foundation stone for the Coke Oven Plant at KIOCL premises in Panambur. Senior officials, including Chairman and Managing Director T. Saminathan and others, were present.
Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Dakshina Kannada MP, on Saturday urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to facilitate speeding up of ongoing critical infrastructure works in the region, including Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 widening, establishment of Indian Coast Guard Academy, and merger of Konkan Railway Corporation with the Indian Railways.
