Diversions on Alagarkoil Road, Gokhale Road made to aid construction of elevated corridor
After ten years, a major stretch of Alagarkoil Road was converted into two-way road between Tallakulam Perumal Temple junction and Race Course junction.
This is one of the changes, that Madurai City Traffic Police have introduced in and around Outpost on Alagarkoil Road and Gokhale Road to enable construction of the elevated road between Madurai and Natham.
“Besides, putting up signages about the traffic diversions at all critical points, we have also posted traffic police to guide road users,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. Arumugasamy.
However, the city police is bracing up to handle the working day peak hour traffic on Monday.
Alagarkoil Road was made one-way between Race Course Junction and Tamukkam junction in 2012 and its parallel road, Gokhale Road, was converted into one-way between Tamukkam and PTR Palanivel Rajan statue junction.
Now, the road between Tallakulam and Race Course Road has been opened for two-way traffic with temporary median put in place to ensure safety.
While vehicles from Tamukkam proceeding towards New Natham Road can go straight as usual on Gokhale Road (except for buses), vehicles proceeding towards Pudur and Alagarkoil should take right on Navaneethakrishnan Temple Road (North Road) to take Alagarkoil Road.
