TNGEA stages human chain protest for women’s safety and workplace rights

TNGEA Thoothukudi organizes human chain protest demanding safety measures for women in government offices.
Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association (TNGEA), Thoothukudi, organised a human chain protest, condemning sexual violence against women and demanding measures for the safety of women at government offices along with various other demands.
As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, TNGEA of Thoothukudi conducted a human chain protest followed by a seminar programme on various topics held for the employees. The protest took place near the TNGEA office in Thoothukudi.
The protest, led by the TNGEA District Secretary J. Umadevi, saw the participation of more than 100 women employees. During the protest they raised various demands including urging the government to grant menstrual leave to women, installation of sanitary napkin vending and disposal machines at the government offices, provision of separate toilet facilities for women in all government offices and declaring women’s day as public holiday.
Ms. Umadevi also called for installation of complaint boxes at every government office for reporting sexual violence against women, ensuring the formation and implementation of Vishaka committee at all the offices, installation of CCTV cameras in workplaces, filling up vacancies in government offices and reinstating the old pension scheme.
TNGEA vice president T. Murugan, District president Mahendra Prabhu and other functionaries of TNGEA were present at the event.
