Fr. Jeffrey Kirby of South Carolina reflects on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, and its call to "rejoice always" and "pray without ceasing" as it relates to the holy season of Advent.
Joy "is the sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit." "We were not made for misery. We were created and redeemed by God to rejoice, and to rejoice always." Christine Rousselle is a lifestyle reporter with Fox News Digital.
Kirby is pastor of Our Lady of Grace Parish in Indian Land, South Carolina, and host of the daily devotional, "Morning Offering with Father Kirby."
This day is also known as "Gaudete Sunday," said Kirby. In Latin, "gaudete" means "rejoice." Its name comes from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians, in which Paul tells Christians to "rejoice always."
