DMK President M.K. Stalin addresses challenges faced by Tamil Nadu, emphasizing language rights and fair delimitation. Stand together for state's rights.
DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday (February 28, 2025) said “The State is confronting two challenges – the battle for language, which is our lifeline and the battle for fair delimitation, which is our right.”
In a video message to DMK cadres, Mr. Stalin said the proposed delimitation exercise would adversely affect Tamil Nadu’s self-respect, social justice and welfare measures. “You [DMK cadres] should take this message to people. Every individual should rise to defend the rights of our State.”
He said “Tamil Nadu was a pioneer in setting an example for the entire nation in this ideological battle. Today, Karnataka, Punjab, Telangana and a few other States also extended solidarity with us. Facing resistance, the Centre claims to have not attempting to impose Hindi, but on the contrary, taking all kinds of initiatives to do so. It also withheld our funds for not accepting the three-language policy,” Mr. Stalin said.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that the Centre had only said the number of parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu won’t be reduced because of proposed delimitation and had not assured that the representation of other States won’t be disproportionately increased.
He also disapproved of the method in determining the number of parliamentary seats in a State solely based on population and said it would penalise southern States which implemented population control measures and eventually led to the development of the country. “If such an injustice is enforced on us, the DMK and Tamil Nadu will never accept it. We will never compromise on the future and welfare of our State. We will stand together, fight and win our State’s rights,” he added.
