The "Late Show" host didn't even pause before this one.
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert isn’t buying Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s various excuses for how a journalist was accidentally added to a group chat discussion of highly sensitive military issues.
Hegseth, Colbert said, “did what any mature, slightly buzzed, individual would do when accused: He posted an unhinged rant on Twitter.”
Hegseth on Wednesday railed against The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg, who was inadvertently added to the group chat on military strikes in Yemen and other matters by national security adviser Michael Waltz.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also defended Hegseth, telling reporters: “Do you trust the secretary of defense, who was nominated for this role... or do you trust Jeffrey Goldberg?”
Colbert didn’t even pause before offering an answer of his own.
