As per Socio-Economic Survey, much needs to be done on literacy front
The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Andhra Pradesh has increased by 1.58% even during the COVID-19 crisis, which is higher than the national GDP of -3.8%, according to the advanced estimates for the year 2020-2021 in the Socio-Economic Survey brought out by the Planning Department. The survey report was presented to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy by Planning Secretary G.S.R.K. Vijaya Kumar. The survey revealed that the per capita income of the State increased to ₹1.70 lakh per annum against ₹1.68 lakh in 2019-20. The national per capita income for 2019-20 stood at ₹1.34 lakh per annum.

At a recent event held in the city, Cambridge University Press & Assessment launched an advisory panel comprising leaders from top global corporations, aiming to bridge the employability gap in India and better align academic output with industry needs. A whitepaper released at the event highlighted the growing importance of communication skills, the need for stronger collaboration between industry and universities, and strategies to bridge the persistent skill gap.

Under the NBS, newborns are screened for communication disorders before they are discharged from the hospital. For this, AIISH has collaborated with several hospitals to conduct screening which is performed to detect hearing impairment and other developmental disabilities that can affect speech and language development. The screening has been helping in early intervention for those identified with the disorders, as any delay in the identification poses risk and affects successful management of children with hearing loss, according to AIISH.
